Expansion of high-speed Internet across the United Kingdom is expected to produce 5,300 new jobs in the UK. Approximately 2,500 UK jobs in engineering will be created by the Openreach division of British Telecom (BT), while another 2,800 jobs in the UK will be generated by BT's construction partners. A key goal is to provide 20 million more people living in the UK with access to high-speed Internet, which could allow more people to work from home and reduce pressures on housing and transportation.
